Reset forgotten password on Linux Mint 9, Debian, and Ubuntu 10.04

This is a short video on changing ANY user's password on Linux Mint and Ubuntu (they are one and the same--Linux Mint just looks better ;-) Procedure described below (better one located on my blog/tutorial site here https://sites.google.com/site/ ebininja/tutorials/root-password-reset ):Basically, what you do is hold down SHIFT during boot-up to access the GRUB or GRUB2 bootmenu. Press E to edit the commands (like it says at the prompt).Navigate to the line that says "linux /boot/vmlinuz blah blah ro single blah blah" and change it to "linux /boot/vmlinuz blah blah rw single init=/bin/bash blah blah"Press Ctrl+X to boot using the modified parameters.Once in (as root), you can change the password of whatever user you want.If you forgot what your username was as well, type in "ls /home"Now, type in "passwd {username}"Enter new UNIX password: iloveponies (this wont appear when you're typing it in of course!)Re-enter new UNIX password: iloveponiesDone! This method for almost all Debian and derivative distros and possibly RedHat based distros as well.

If you're wondering why there isn't any audio, it's because at the time I couldn't set up ALSA to have a loopback recording device. Now that I know how to do that, I will post a video on how to do that soon.

Oh ya! I also did this on my laptop for real, it works on both VMs and on the host system.
